The Centre is very pleased to provide an opportunity to gain work
experience to a second batch of students taking the librarianship
course at Seneca College. The three students in the photo (left to
right), Sandra Lam, Dan Jiang and Angela Liu, are all new immigrants.
They will volunteer about two hours per week in the Richard Charles Lee
Resource Centre under the direction of librarian Mr. Chuck Wong.
The Centre extends thanks to the volunteers, and to their course
director at Seneca College, Mr. Carlyle Kemp-Jackson.

The CCC Calligrathon is happening! Calligraphy is an integral part of
Chinese culture, and CCC aims to create this unique opportunity to
encourage the art of writing and calligraphy. Now, by participating in
the Calligrathon, you can practice calligraphy and at the same time
help raise funds for CCC. Both English and Chinese calligraphy are
acceptable, and people of all ages are welcome. Details and the pledge
forms can be found at
http://www.cccgt.org/2004/F_Calligrathon.html
In addition to the Calligrathon, CCC is proud to present the exhibition
"Chinese Script: from ORACLE BONES to COMPUTER BYTES" which is now
showing on the second floor of the Robarts Library of the University of
Toronto; this exhibition is presented in partnership with the Consulate
General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto, the City of
Toronto -- Parks and Recreation, Economic Development, Culture and

:::::::::::::::::::::::::: Silk Road To Prosperity ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::::::::::::::: Mid-Autumn Harvest Moon Festival ::::::::::::::::::::::::
The Mid Autumn Festival is one of the biggest Chinese festivals. It not
only celebrates the good harvests in autumn, but also symbolizes the
gathering or union of a family. As in previous years, the Chinese
Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto organized the annual "Mid Autumn
Harvest Moon Festival Celebration" on Saturday September 25. Families,
kids, and friends came to the CCC and enjoyed the whole afternoon of
live Chinese music played by Toronto Chinese Orchestra, a Chinese folk
dance, Cantonese Opera by Starlight Cantonese Opera, a piano
performance, a moon cake-making demonstration, and more. Lantern
decoration is another must-have tradition practice in this festival,
and so CCC gave out free lanterns to all the children. The event was
very well received and everyone enjoyed the celebration.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::: Hong Kong Film Festival ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
After a week of 8 exciting screenings, the Hong Kong Film Festival has
come to an end. It is amazing how much Hong Kong produced films have
matured. Some of the cinematography are world-class and the actors and
actresses were really absorbed in who they were portraying. Thanks to
Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto for partnering with us
in organizing this event and providing us with the opportunity to raise
some funds for the Phase 2 development.
